Reiki

History

The traditional story of Reiki Healing began in Japan during the 1800's with Mikao Usui, but even during that time it was considered an ancient practice. Usui sought after the origins of Jesus and Buddhist methods of healing, thus embarked on a 10 year journey. Usui's final test was a 3 weeks meditation on Mt. Koriyama in Japan. He chose a meditation site and piled 21 stones to mark the time, throwing away one stone at the end of each day. In the darkest hour of his last day, Usui saw a projectile of light coming towards him. Despite his urge to run, he accepted what was coming towards him as the light struck his third eye. After losing consciousness, he saw millions of rainbow bubbles, the Reiki symbols used today and their uses in activating energy healing. Usui then left the mountain and experienced what is traditionally known as the four miracles. Usui named the energy Reiki, which means universal life force energy.

What to Expect

Reiki is a healing energy modality that is passed from the practitioner to the receiver, directed by God, Source, The Universe ( choose which name aligns with you.) Reiki can never cause harm and the receiver is always in control of how much they healing the will receive. Reiki helps to balance the chakras and energy field. The chakra system we use in the West originated in India and is said to regulate the organs in each of the seven centers. These centers act as a map of the main energy centers and are associated with physical, emotional and spiritual functions.

During a session, you can expect to lie down fully clothed, while the practitioner lightly places their hands near or on your body. Many people experience a sense of warmth or cold, a tingling sensation, emotions surfacing or deep relaxation. It is important to keep an open mind and allow energy to flow, as each person's experience can vary. After a session some enjoy grounding and spending time in nature, as their energy centers are more open. It's important to listen to what your body may need which can include: extra sleep, journaling, and hydrating.
